Serendipity Press began in the light-filled studio at the Chocolate Factory N16 in North East London as the imprint of the artists’ book practice of Julie Caves. Trying her best to make contact with humanity, she makes books that offer a moment of cheerful confusion, books that celebrate the beauty of the so-called ordinary, books made of groupings and lists, cataloguing the things and places we think we know, and books that offer a new look at things you see every day.
Julie began her art studies in California in 1989, studied art in Spain, received her BFA in Studio Art (Sculpture and Printmaking) in Texas, and her MA in Bookarts from Camberwell College of Arts in London. She was in her first juried painting show in 1990 and has participated in exhibitions in the US, Spain, Korea, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, and the UK.
Serendipity Press has also printed collaborations and distributed the work of other book artists.
She says:
“I want the objects to captivate the viewer, to stop time for a moment and transfix them with pleasure and wonder.”
