Waltham Forest Arts Club organised an exhibition to coincide with the Waltham Forest Literature Festival.
May 23rd to 28th in The Red Room at Ye Olde Rose & Crown, 53 Hoe Street, Walthamstow E17 4SA.

The Long Conversation: Poetry and Painting
Painting is silent poetry, and poetry painting that speaks.” – Simonides

Written words that paint a picture or pictures full of poetry.

Artists were called to interpret the long-standing relationship between the written word and visual art, in the broadest terms.  All mediums were encouraged including: concrete poetry, text-based work, artists’ books, sound installations, photography, painting, printmaking, sculpture, performance, and poetry readings.  We would especially like to encourage our writers and poets to participate in this exhibition. There was a long table for display of books to be read, along with editions and cards.

I have contributed an image to Katja Rosenberg‘s piece Memory Game 2009.

It is a photograph of a yellow treetop against a blue sky that I took this autumn in Walthamstow.  She has used images from artists in the Waltham Forest Arts Club to create a set of boards for the classic memory game where you turn over the pieces and match pairs.  Many of the images are of areas in Walthamstow. She has made prints for the backs of the pieces.

You can see and purchase a piece from the edition at the WALTHAM FOREST ARTS CLUB WINTER SHOW.

The exhibition has many paintings and drawings, some sculpture and a video piece as well.  I have a painting from the Twilight series in the show.

Vestry House Museum, Walthamstow E17 9NH. A short walk from the terminus of the Victoria Line at Walthamstow Central.
The exhibition continues 10am till 5 pm, Wednesday to Sunday, up till Christmas.
