From the Theatre Royal Bath Press Release:
Young People’s Theatre teams up with Bath Literature Festival to stage Book Labyrinth at the egg theatre – opening on World Book Day

As the Family Theatre Festival 2011 continues at the Theatre Royal Bath, actors from the Young People’s Theatre are staging BOOK LABYRINTH at the egg theatre in collaboration with Bath Literature Festival. This specially-commissioned production opens on World Book Day, Thursday 3rd March, with matinee and evening performances running until Sunday 6th March.

Directed by Lucy Cassidy and designed by Anna Michaels, this atmospheric performance will conjure up cherished moments from well-loved books featuring stories remembered by every generation, in a production suitable for audiences aged 6 years and over.

The Young People’s Theatre, Bath Festival’s Write Team and director Lucy Cassidy, visited Mr B’s Bookshop and Bath Library to interview members of the public about their favourite moment from a children’s story. The books of Roald Dahl proved to be an extremely popular choice with people of all ages. Inspired by their findings, the young people developed this absorbing production featuring a dream-like set made from disused books. The egg theatre will be transformed into a literary maze that scales the auditorium, balconies and stairways.

In an old bookshop setting, the audience is invited on a magical journey into children’s literature as the Grand High Bookseller and the magical Bookshop Assistants conjure up different moments from a range of favourite children’s books. Within the show, the audience will find themselves in the world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Witches, Fantastic Mr Fox, The Borrowers, Where the Wild Things Are, Alice in Wonderland, Eldest and many more.

The twelve cast members, who all hail from Bath, are aged between 14 to 17 years. Working with a professional team at the egg theatre, the teenagers researched and developed the piece before Christmas, and they have been busy rehearsing since January during evenings and weekends to prepare for the performances during Bath’s Family Theatre Festival.

BOOK LABYRINTH appears in the egg theatre at the Theatre Royal Bath from Thursday 3rd March to Sunday 6th March. Tickets cost £7 / £5.50 children. To book tickets call the Theatre Royal Bath Box Office on 01225 448844 or the egg reception on 01225 823 409.
